Best of

2023 by This Modern Love

Some favourite frames from our 2023 weddings.

A gorgeous hug of a year, with a bunch of beautiful human beings.

Delighted to work with more little families this year, including the pandemic surprise babies!

To keep things simple, we didn't travel outside Ireland in 2023. But Down, Dublin, Sligo, Wicklow, Tipperary, Laois, Mayo, Louth, Fermanagh, Westmeath, Wexford, Antrim, Carlow and Donegal - we have been in you.  Derry, Armagh, Cork, Meath, Clare and more - we are on our way!

Hugest thanks to all our 2023 couples for the love and the belly laughs, and for allowing us to walk with you for a little bit of 2023. Thanks to our former couples, their friends and families who have recommended us. There's something so incredible about photographing a group of friends or siblings over the years. Enormous thanks also to all the legendary suppliers and venues, for making it all happen like magic.

It is ten years since we put together our first 'best of'. We can hardly believe it. Thanks to everyone who has held us up along the way xx

2022 by This Modern Love

2022 was such a special time to be photographing weddings. We've all been through a lot these last years. You could feel this at the weddings - a sense that people were holding on to loved ones tightly, and making the most of every moment together.

There were some empty chairs this year. But people went the extra mile to get to the side of the people they loved.

There was new life too. Surprise babies that arrived before rescheduled wedding days! Wide eyed kids experiencing their first huge family party.

And there was SO MUCH JOY at these weddings.

Reunions of families and groups of friends after many years. Really moving ceremonies, as couples promised each-other that they would navigate this crazy world together.

This comes through in the photography, I think. These pictures are all about relationships, tenderness, small moments of togetherness, lightness and messing.

Seeing the bar lined up with rows of Guinness again was a beautiful sight. There was so much laughter. A sense of unhinged abandonment on the dance floor.

God, we loved it. It's good to be back.

2019 by This Modern Love

Every January, I sit down with all the images I've taken the previous year. Life comes at you fast these days. And this meditative milestone has become an important part of my photography practice - asking what worked last year, what could be done better, what could I try next year to keep things creative...

I've always been a documentary wedding photographer, and this has only become stronger over time. People are asking us for less and less portraits these days. They want us to focus on the story, to shoot real moments as they happen, to observe the things they don't notice, to find the humour, the connections between people.

One other big highlight of the year was having my first solo painting show in ages. I've loved the ebb of winters in the studio making slowly crafted images, flowing into whirlwind wedding summers full of energy and colour. Hopefully each makes the other stronger.

A huge thanks to all of you who've trusted us with your weddings this year. It's been a privilege to photograph days that are so full of thought and love and Guinness and maggotry. You are amazing xx
